We cordially invite you to the opening on January 22, 2009 at 7pm Nancy Atakan OBSESSION / TAKINTI Everything can be the object of desire. All kind of objects can evoke the wish to trace them, to observe them, to collect them and to own them. Obsessions are developing, not necessarily as the main purpose in life but unwillingly, by the way... Some people cultivate their passions, some deny them, and some let themselves go within them. The attempt to control the object of desire or at least to come a little closer by accumulating it is big. Also to gain the possibility to trail off again in its variety.   As every loss of control touches upon intimate and taboo like matters, every society has its own way of transforming passion along its genderspecific role assignments. And if there tightens a thread of delicate needlework through international hotelrooms, private closets and the braidy structure of the urban then it can be as beautiful as innocent lace or as complicated as an indissoluble knot.     Nancy Atakan’s works will be shown in two places: Sahkulu Mah. Galipdede Cad No. 55 A1 and Galatakulesi Sokak No 3/2 Kuledibi/Beyoğlu/Istanbul The exhibition series of manzara-perspectives is organised by Anna Heidenhain and Kristina Kramer. « back |
