Images of a City between Tradition and ModernityIstanbuls population grew significantly during the last decades. This development took place without any urban masterplan. It is only since recent times that the reflexion about creation and design of the city's structure is discussed in public. Thus it meets a variety of problematics between eagerness for modernization and the slowly raising conciousness for traditions and preservations. This tour leads to recent restoration projects of historical Ottoman wooden houses in Fatih and on to the Byzantine city walls, in order to show how historical buildings are treated. We also visit the storage places of the waste collectors, the so called "cöpci", who work independently from the city administration and interfer in the waste business. We get to know their typical accomodation in mass housing structures. Following the shores of the Golden Horn we stop at SantralIstanbul, a former power plant which was converted into a culture & arts project centre. Our tour ends there with typical "cay".
